The ULTRAponics GroTube was in development for over a decade before it actually went into production in 2005. It originally began in our attempts to overcome the deficiencies in the commercially available hydroponic equipment we were using in our personal indoor and outdoor vegetable and fresh herb growing operations in South Florida. Some of the things we didn’t like about the commercially available, now obsolete, equipment that we were forced to use at the time which forced us to start experimenting for a better way were, among other things, the use of Rockwool which is used as a rooting medium and is an environmental and biohazard, not to mention a stinky, soggy, heavy, cumbersome asbestos-like after harvest mess to clean up and dispose of that is, of course, not biodegradable. That was our first and primary concern. Then came other developments like our answer to rain water collection and reservoir/nutrient changes outdoors and, conversely, humidity releases in indoor growing environments. Remember, 100% humidity at 100F equals a Heat Index of 300 degrees !!! What happens when the air conditioning unexpectedly fails, a couple of 1000 watt lights are blazing and the hydroponic system you more than likely are using is pouring humidity into the room? Disaster, plants can take 100 degrees for a while but absolutely not 300. Not only when the AC breaks down are problems caused by humidity. Constant high humidity, even with good AC, many times brings mold, mildew and even insect pests with the warmer Heat Index. Constantly clogging dripper systems and problematic flood designs also were an ongoing concern/problem. We tried quite a few different commercially available systems and none adequately solved the problems. Without constant attention and maintenance, disastrous problems somehow always occur with all other now obsolete commercially available systems. We designed every possible problem that we ever encountered (and we encountered absolutely EVERY one of them) out of our ULTRAponics GroTube System and are so confident in what we’ve developed over the course of the past 14 years that we tell people that our system is the only system you’ll ever need. We also made it easy to clean, heavy duty and from DRINKING WATER QUALITY PVC to insure no toxic chemicals would leech into the nutrient solution and into your plants or react with the plastic.
